Bobby is a single man (or in the 2020 revival, woman) surrounded by married couples on his/her 35th birthday. Through a series of vignettes featuring lovers and friends, Bobby tries to make sense of the institution of marriage and comes to terms with what it means to be alive.

Thank you for a wonderful evening. For the first time in many years, we were able to share the event with one of our children and part of her family. They had such fun, as we did. The casting was perfect; there wasn't a weak link! I had been a little nervous about whether the "Englishness" of the play could be handled without strain or inconsistency. It certainly succeeded, in our eyes and ears!
