The Eventide Theatre Company is pleased to present “Twain by the Tale,” by Dennis Snee, and directed by Stephen Rourke. This will be streaming from July 22 – August 1.
In this two act revue of Mark Twain’s stories, sketches, and monologues, the wit and timeless perceptions of America’s greatest humorist are celebrated. Twain’s talent for documenting the chronic and comic nature of human weakness is vibrantly on display in this unique and very funny show.
Adapted from Twain’s own writings, and performed by some of the finest actors in the region, the play features theatrical performances of the great humorist’s stories, such as “The Legend of Sagenfeld”, “Noah and the Bureaucrat,” and “The Great French Duel.” Director Stephen Rourke appears as Twain himself and delivers his sharply pointed monologues in an unforgettable performance.
Filmed during the pandemic with the assistance of the staff at the Cape Cod Media Center, all the performers were shot individually against a green screen background in compliance with Covid-safe practices, then woven together seamlessly in post-production. The result is a fascinating blend of classic Twain humor presented in a cutting edge medium.
The cast of “Twain by the Tale” is filled with actors familiar to Eventide and Cape Cod audiences, as well as several newcomers. I addition to Stephen Rourke portraying Twain himself, the cast consists of Janet Geist Moore, Cleo Zani, Mitchell Kiliulis, Andrew Krauss, Pamela Gill, Brandon Prentiss, Chuck Gifford, Stephanie Miele, Ana Item, Emma Engelsen, Thomas Crutchfield, and Toby Wilson. Directed and edited by Stephen Rourke. Costumes by Amy Canaday. Hair and makeup by Thomas Crutchfield. Set and backgrounds by Guy Trudeau. Properties by Mary Rice.
