Monday, 5/17 @ 6PM
In this workshop, Isa will guide participants through what is consider to be some of the overarching principles of great songwriting. You’ll listen to a few examples of great songs in a variety of styles, and then discuss what makes them work and how we can apply those ideas to our own writing in our own ways.
After the group discussion, depending on participants’ interest, you will spend the rest of the workshop doing a combination of writing exercises to help get your creative energy moving, and song sharing.
If you have a song in progress that you’d like some (constructive and kind!) feedback on, this will be a great space for you to get some guidance! Song submission is totally optional — we will likely only have time for a speedy round of feedback on 3-4 songs, so you are still strongly encouraged to sign up even if you don’t want to share a song.
If you do want to share a song, once you’ve registered for the workshop, please send an audio file and a lyric sheet to me at firstname.lastname@example.org. (You will also be sharing the songs with the other participants during the workshop, either by playing a pre-recorded file or by performing it live, but I like to get a sense of the songs in advance.)
