Winner of Eventide/Kaplan playwrighting competition is Robert Dutton for “Office Noise”

The staged reading of “Office Noise” will be held on March 23 @ 7:30 pm & March 24 @ 2:30 pm at the Jacob Sears Memorial Library,

The Eventide Theatre Company is announcing the winner of the 2019 Jeremiah Kaplan Prize for new playwrights. Robert’s prize winning play, “Office Noise.”   Since graduating from Emerson College, Robert has run the gamut of entertainment experiences. He has: managed movie theatres; worked for film producers in Hollywood; started a successful video store; created/published/edited a magazine about classic TV shows; worked for five years as a professional actor in regional/dinner theatre and theme park productions; served as Managing Director of the Vineyard Playhouse and Marketing Director for a dinner theatre in Orlando; taught as a high school Drama teacher and middle school English teacher for a dozen years; and wrote, directed and produced plays and musicals in a variety of venues. Currently, he is the Managing Director of the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society.”

The Jeremiah Kaplan Prize is worth $1000.00.

The staged reading of “Office Noise” will be held on March 23 @ 7:30 pm & March 24 @ 2:30 pm at the Jacob Sears Memorial Library,  23 Center Street, E. Dennis.  Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door.

Eventide’s Playwrights Competition is unique in that it provides all submitting authors the opportunity to have their work critiqued and developed with the assistance of a highly experienced literary coordinator, Steve Reynolds, Professor Emeritus of Theatre at Wittenberg University in Ohio. Steve advised Tom through 3 rewrites of his of his work, as well as providing assistance and critiques to all the other playwright submitting new plays this year.

For over 10 years, Eventide Theatre Company showcases an array of Cape Cod creative voices, including our annual New Playwrights, New Plays: the Jeremiah Kaplan Playwriting Competition and Performance. We accept full-length play manuscripts (please no musicals or previously produced work) from Cape Cod playwrights on or before September 1 each year.
